Fiyala

The Mahi-mahi has many names throughout the world’s ocean but in the Maldives, it simply known as the “Fiyala”.
This magnificent creature is the basis of traditional Maldivian Folklore, especially the myth of the origin of tunas. It is revered both as excellent table fare and its prowess as a powerful game fish.
The Spanish name “Dorado” inspired me to create this sculpt. I wanted to imagine how a Mahi-mahi would look coming out of the darkness of dawn, a gold streak in the darkness.
