The White Tern is a small seabird found across the world’s tropical oceans. Though small in stature, their reputation as one of the most beautiful seabirds precedes them. From the breath-taking white plumage to the contrasting black eye rings and beaks with blue bases, these terns are admired across their natural range.

In the Maldives, they are known as "Dhondheeni" or "Kandhuvalu" and are almost exclusively found in the southernmost atoll of Addu (Seenu). They are a symbol of pride for Adduans and are often used as an emblem of Addu City.

White Terns are often monogamous and will remain as a pair for many seasons. Their elaborate aerial courtship is a sight to behold, with the male soaring high into the sky, followed by the female, before the pair spiral down in a graceful dance.

Known for their captivating acrobatics, Spinner dolphins grace tropical waters worldwide. Revered in maritime lore as symbols of luck and abundant catches, dolphins hold a special place in cultures like the Maldives, guiding fishermen to fruitful waters. From the rare Olive Ridley to gargantuan Leatherback, sea turtles have graced our seas and shores with their presence for aeons. Though they have been traditionally hunted for their meat, eggs and shells, the mentality toward these amazing creatures have been gradually changing over the past few decades. With the combined efforts of conservationists, scientists and the authorities, many sanctuaries now exist in the Maldives. Their efforts have shown to be fruitful, as turtle numbers have been making a comeback and becoming a common sight for divers and snorkelling enthusiasts.
