The word clam in the Maldives is often associated with the Giant Clam, or their ornately designed shells, which are locally known as rin’dheli. Though octopi, or boa’va as they are known in dhivehi, are an icon of the coral reef, they are often a hard creature to spot on dives and snorkelling trips.
