Cone Shells are a large group of marine molluscs, typically inhabiting warm tropical seas. Named after the Maldives, Conus Maldivus is one of the many Cone Shell species that inhabit the Indian Ocean. Though beautiful, live cone shell species are highly venomous and can deliver a sting to incapacitate their prey. The Shells of these stunning creatures provide shelter for many sea creatures.

The Zigzag Venus Clam, like most members of the Veneridae family, have very unique shells, oval with vibrant brownish orange markings set against a pearlescent base that looks almost like a cave drawing.

The flying fish, or ‘fulhan’gi’, as known in the Maldives, is one of the most fascinating fish in our oceans. These remarkable fish have evolved to be able to leap out the water and glide over the waves to escape from large predators like tunas, billfish and the ever vibrant mahi-mahis. They are able to leap and glide over the water’s surface for astonishing distances, sometimes up 650 feet. They have also been known to reach speeds of over 50 kilometres per hour.
